Chilean Home Remedies

As I was brainstorming for this blog entry during my travels, my husband suggested I write about home remedies from Chile. I thought it was a wonderful way to connect my work with my travels. It also made for interesting conversation with family and friends. All the remedies provided come from them.

Stomacheache- Have a satisfiying meal of burnt, fat- free bread. Mmm!

Conjunctivitis- Dip a cotton swab in freshly steeped and slightly cooled black tea. Use swab to clean eye. Afterwards, use as a compress for 10 minutes to prevent reoccurrence. Repeat twice daily, in the morning and before bed.

Athlete´s Foot- Wash feet with vinegar before bedtime. Repeat daily as needed.

Stye- First, find yourself a gold ring. Second, rub it back and forth on your pant leg until it is hot. Third, apply directly to the stye until the ring cools. Repeat a number of times in a row and it disappears. If any of you try this, please let me know!

Scars- To reduce the appearance of scars there is a most unlikely yet acclaimed remedy…snail slime! Apparently it is so effective that it has been turned into quite a pricy product. There are people who collect and refine it and it is commonly sold in pharmacies. I will try to bring a jar home for those of you interested.
