5 Reasons Why Alignment Therapy is Better Than Other Myofascial Release Techniques

Recently, I was browsing Ask.com and came across a post about myofascial release techniques—specifically ones that are less painful than the "norm" people have experienced.

The school that I attended teaches the unwinding of the fascia (as opposed to forcing through it).  This technique is not widely practiced (or taught), but is very effective for the following reasons:

Tips for a Healthy Thyroid

On estimate, 59 million Americans suffer from some sort of thyroid dysfunction (the thyroid gland is located just under the skin, splayed like a butterfly across the windpipe, right below the Adam's apple). I also recently read that while many cancers are on the decline, thyroid cancer numbers are soaring, especially in women. I took a closer look at the thyroid over the last couple of months and have read that fertility issues can stem from thyroid dysfunction as well as  problems during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This month I thought I would share with you a few ways to keep your thyroid healthy!

Pick-Your-Own Farms: Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Right at Your Fingertips

My first blueberry picking experience was over ten years ago: The suggestion to go came from a stranger when I lived in Boone, NC.  My friends and I wrote the directions down and drove ourselves out to a beautiful open farm full of blueberry bushes. It had a little sign posted near the entrance: "Donations appreciated." We placed our money into the bucket, putzed around the bushes, took pictures, and filled up our empty gallon milk containers with smiles.  It was a sweet experience :)

Though I love how my story took place—from an interaction with a friendly fellow with a fantastic suggestion—we can find our direction and inspiration for fresh picking from somewhere else. I found an amazing website that serves as a guide for this type of adventure in any state. Pickyourown.org is an informative site that can help you find a pick-your-own farm nearest you. I find picking to be fun and relaxing.  It is an incredible feeling to pack up fresh food that you just picked yourself and then head home for some good cooking or just simple snacking. This site is good for informing you of the fruits or veggies in season for picking and all of the benefits of eating these wonderful foods. Also, it tells you ways to prepare for your day out at the farm and recipes for cooking your picks later.

Blueberry season is coming soon!  A good time for picking blueberries is mid-June to mid-August. Though it can vary because of the weather and the seasonal changes we have had, according to the charts I read, July 5th through August 10th is the best time. Always call the farm a bit before the season begins to check on the status of the fruit or vegetable that you plan on picking: You don't want to take the drive all the way out to a farm to be disappointed.

I hope for you to enjoy the picking experience!  Always bring a nice big sun hat, some sun block, and a camera to capture the memories of this wonderful time with nature.

Research on the Science of Touch

"To touch can be to give life", Michaelangelo

Touch, what would PCCHH be without touch.  It is foundational for most of our services.  We have the honor of experiencing deep human connection for hours a day, and sometimes can take for granted that there are millions of people who are in our world who are possibly deprived of touch.
