Pranayama the importance of breath

People have lived weeks without food, days without water but life expires in just minutes without breath. Do you ever stop and think about what an important job proper breathing is doing? It is something I'm sure isn't a top priority for most of us. Oxygen is the most important  nutrient we can supply our body with.

Whether you have little ones just starting school (my Zane will start preschool, sniff sniff), going back or even off to college (when that day comes I've informed my husband I'll be packing myself in their suitcase!) this can be an exciting time of year. You may not even have kids yet still love this time as one of new beginnings. Use these lazy days of August to reflect on the summer and let the warmth heal your soul (keep that warm memory on reserve for our crazy Pittsburgh winters). Then sharpen your pencils and think about the coming change of season and what it means to you.

I've learned a lot in the year plus working at the Pittsburgh Center for Complementary Health and Healing. I truly enjoy working with such talented and passionate people! My goal with going back to work part time while I raised my little ones was mostly to not lose touch with the career I loved. That is the wonderful thing about this field of work...if you  open yourself to the experience the rewards just pour in!

Warming Your Body and Soul

I love the sights and sounds of winter, I love the look of falling snow and the laughter of my toddlers building a snowman (that really ended up being a shapeless mound of snow but what do they care?). Even though I enjoy winter I'm the first to admit cabin fever (when those laughing toddlers turn to screaming monsters), and fortunately it's that cabin fever that brings out my creativity. Not wanting to brave the cold I looked up a lentil soup recipe that consisted of everything I already had in the house...yummy! Okay body warmed...check. Now for my soul...that ones harder.
