Stepping into the center is in itself a calming experience. The atmosphere is a respite form the bustle of Braddock Ave. I leave with a peaceful outlook and a healthier body.
Kate Sherman
Kate Sherman is a Certified Shiatsu Practitioner, Reiki Level II Practitioner, and Master's level Counseling Psychologist. She brings her knowledge of Eastern and Western models of health and healing along with her sacred belief that All-is-One to each and every Shiatsu treatment. Her confident sense of touch along with her strongly developed intuition allow her to tune in to energetic imbalances, helping to promote the flow of Ki, increasing harmony and flexibility in the receiver's entire being.
Kate grew up in Western Pennsylvania exploring the woods, playing sports and dreaming of a career in medicine. She attended the University of Pittsburgh where she majored in Psychology with an emphasis on the physical sciences of biology and chemistry. She began asking “What is health?”, “What does healing look like?”, and “What does it mean to be healthy?”.
She went on to pursue a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University. She loved the supportive relationships that developed between therapist and client, and felt that she grew just as her clients did- through self examination, compassion and a willingness to change. She began aligning with a holistic view of health. Kate began to see that everything holds meaning, every symptom and triumph of being. Health became a more flexible notion; one of homeostasis, returning to balance full and vital while continually cycling through growth, passing, and development.
Enrolling in a Level 1 Shiatsu course at the UPMC Center for Integrative Medicine taught by Stephanie Ulmer was indeed a turning point for Kate. The concept of energy was not foreign, but the direct experience of it had been. As she opened her senses to a new view of reality and began palpating and then seeing energy meridians in the body, her awareness of the healing potential shifted dramatically. She completed all four levels and gained her Shiatsu Practitioner Certificate. She became certified in Reiki levels I and II. She has enjoyed 3 years of private practice, giving Shiatsu, Reiki and Holistic Counseling, at both the Aletheia Center in Swissvale and in her teacher's private studio.
Kate is thrilled to be a part of the progressive team of healing professionals at the Pittsburgh Center for Complementary Health and Healing, exchanging wisdom and invigorating community wellness.
