Certified Massage Therapist

Sarah Bauer
Sarah Bauer became interested in the human body when she first started dancing at the age of seven. This interest in movement and the physical body led her to attend the North Carolina School of the Arts to major in Contemporary Dance. Her background as a dancer has given her intensive experience with anatomy and nutrition. In addition to her study of the physical body, Sarah also studies Eastern Philosophy and Earth based religions giving her the ability to integrate spirituality, meditation, and insights into her hands-on therapies.

Sarah’s search for a path that would fulfill all of her passions has led her to a career as a massage therapist. As a graduate of the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy’s Foundations program Sarah created a cross-disciplinary study in Medical Massage and Asian and Energy Therapies for her Advanced Diploma. This approach of East meets West gives Sarah a powerful combination to truly address the body as a whole.

Sarah uses a combination of Swedish massage, Myofascial Touch, Sports, Neuromuscular Therapy, Reiki, and Zen Shiatsu. Depending on the client’s individual needs, the work may vary between deep tissue strokes, sustained lengthening of muscle, active strokes to increase tone and a gentle laying on of hands.

Sarah enjoys working with a range of clients, including those recovering from injury, suffering from anxiety or depression, and those living with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and migraines. Massage is a great way to reintegrate positive touch for someone overcoming trauma or just looking to deepen their connection to their body. Sarah has special training for caring for clients with cancer who may or may not currently be in treatment. She also enjoys sharing the gift of massage and energy work with those looking for personal growth and a greater sense of well-being and relaxation. Bodywork can be used as a meditation to bring us to the present moment and enjoy.

As a bodyworker, Sarah takes time before each session to listen to her client’s needs and dialogue about their personal health goals. During the massage, Sarah applies knowledge of the physical body in conjunction with loving touch and energy work to provide a well-rounded session. Afterwards, she will check in and may make suggestions for self care that will optimize the effects of the massage.

In addition to being a bodyworker, Sarah is an ambassador with the Pittsburgh Birth Circle. As an ambassador she is available to give non-biased information concerning pregnancy, birth, and early parenting. This may include topics ranging from birth control, breastfeeding, natural childbirth options, co-parenting, as well as many others. Being a mother herself, this is one of her favorite topics of discussion! Please do not hesitate to contact her with any questions or concerns.
