Healthy Breasts, Happier you! October honors breast cancer awareness, it’s prevention, and treatment. Much of the focus is on monthly self breast exams as a means of prevention, and donating to help find a cure. Although I would like to argue that self exams are more of a means of detection, and early treatment, not a preventive measure. I would like to share with you some natural ideas for prevention and overall breast health.

Move
Every study implicates the positive connection between exercise and good health. This relates to oxygen, energy and lymph because movement affects them all. Many types of exercise are effective for enhancing lymphatic function and energy movement. Especially any stretching or exercise for the arms and chest muscles.
Deep Breathing
Deep breathing exercises massage the thoracic duct (the largest lymph vessel in the body). This in turn helps moves the lymph. Quality of breathing = healthy lymph flow. Deep breathing also lowers our stress response. When your body is relaxed, it fights off disease a lot better. Most diseases are stress induced.
Massage
Breast massage helps to increase the circulation in your breasts and decreases the symptoms of PMS, menopause and menstrual cramps. Therapeutic breast massage can also lessen discomforts associated with breast cancer treatments, help relieve post-surgical symptoms, and reduce discomfort from pregnancy, breast-feeding and weaning. Breast massage also contributes to improved skin tone while promoting relaxation and balancing your energy.
With regular massage, you will help diminish benign breast cysts while helping to flush lymph nodes and stimulating your glandular system. The breasts are soft tissue and do not have muscles to help them move. Breasts can be effectively self-massaged or massaged by a professional massage therapist. Gentle hands-on techniques, with breast either uncovered or lightly draped, will help enhance circulation and drainage.
3 Easy Steps To Giving Yourself A Breast Massage
1. Using the fingers, gently smooth the skin away from the nipple. Do not use pressure, as deep pressure can flatten the lymphatic vessel and stop the flow of toxins and fluids. Also, make your strokes slow, not fast.
2. Gently massage the breast with a kneading-like motion, using lifting and pressing movements.
3. Carefully use your hands to slowly twist the breast in a clockwise and counterclockwise direction, however, be careful not to put much tension on the breast.
You should aim to fit self breast massage into your routine twice a week.
Go Braless
While you’re at home and relaxing, try to go without your bra. Recent studies have shown a link between wearing a bra and breast cancer. Bras are designed in way that restricts the lymphatic circulation to the breasts. This restriction of fluid prevents waste from leaving the breast tissue. If you have to wear a bra, make sure you wear a bra that fits properly and “Fluff your girls” (bend over and with your hands under your breasts and gently fluff them a few times) before putting your bra on and after taking your bra off.
So remember ladies, treat your body right and don’t forget to “Fluff your girls”
