This past month with the celebration of Mother's Day got me thinking about what it actually means to be a mother. Some words from Mother Teresa express it well.
What matters is the gift of your self, the degree of love that you put into each one of your actions.
Intense love does not measure -- it just gives.
Motherhood has taught me to do my best at being present in each moment. It has taught me to let hurts, disappointments, and frustrations fall away quickly. Especially when you are parenting young children, you get to see how it is important for each moment to be a time in and of itself. Each moment needs to be a new beginning.
In motherhood the mundane, the necessary tasks of life can be transformed into expressions of deep connection and love. The smallest aspects of life can become elevated and meaningful.
Learning to love absolutely, without expectations, I'm sure has been the greatest lesson of my life.
Thank you to Alex, who has been kind enough to teach me all of this, and more :)
